I ran in the IASCA circuit long ago. Whereas you sound like you know ( and trust me it's great to find people on here that can speak in a mature fashion ) RTA, SPL and install where all that mattered. I've ran 15's forever. I'm into volume and back up accuracy with mid basses. That's why for my Z now I went with two 15's, and 4 - 6 1/2 3 ways. Using old school Kenwood 21 Black series. Not sure if you knew them or seen them, but they where King back in the late 80's to early 90's with a 105 to 115 signal to noise ratio. I went on to have the Power 1000's, Colossus, Zeus's, PPI 2300's and so on. My first Amps where Pioneer GM 4000's and 3000's using their 16" subs TSW-400 which they show cased in a slant nose 935 Porsche. Right now I only run 3 Amps in the Black Z. I wasn't looking to turn it into a SPL king. But I do have 5 total I could use. Your right about the Sub box inclosures. Knowing the Magnet weight, RMS, construction such has dual spider rings, signal to noise, Dual 3'', 4-ohm Voice Coils, Aluminum Voice Coil Heat Sink, Vented pole, etc., etc. All go into consideration for that particular person applications. Here's a post I did shows some of it. [ http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=990059&words=Kenwood ]
